B.Sc. in Virology and Immunology
Duration
4-Year
Students need to pass XII with minimum 50 % of marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology from a recognized Board/University.
This 4-year professional programme mainly focuses on theoretical and practical components of Virology i.e., related to viruses that affect animals and human beings. In this course the students are taught about the structural and molecular biology and the communication between the viruses and hosts, different viruses and their history, transmission, diagnosis and methods of increasing immunity towards viruses through vaccination and drugs. The course also provides knowledge about genetics, immunology and management of virus infections. Students will learn about autoimmune diseases that can occur if the immune system attacks the body's own tissues rather than an infectious agent, and apart from that, about various types of issues dealt in this field such as the newly emerging viruses like Marburg, Ebola, Monkey pox, Covid19 etc. The course consists of regular theoretical as well as practical classes with periodic tests and also at the end of the course there is a mandatory internship too that they have to undergo for hands-on experience.
