This is a degree program that mainly focuses on earth science that involves the study of rocks, minerals, other solid substances, their compositions, their history and other processes involving them. Several other topics covered in the course are subjects like environmental science, earth science, mineral science, the study of other natural resources (like water, petroleum, natural gas etc), their positioning and presence, climate change and related problems etc. Students will also get a chance to experience field work and exploration too. Subjects related to solid surfaces, properties of celestial bodies, meteors, structures and their properties are also a part of the course. The importance of geology has also been recognized in the field of civil engineering. Many engineering projects such as construction of tunnels, reservoirs, dams, hydroelectric schemes, bridges etc. require geological advice. A geologist finds the hidden treasures beneath the earth and oceans. Geology as a branch of vital importance finds usefulness in various spheres of life like mineral raw materials and fossil fuels like coal, petroleum and natural gas. Therefore students will be highly skilled to work in various fields towards the completion of the course.

Future Scope
Students after completing B.Sc. in Geology can work as Palaeontologist, Geologist, Petroleum geologist, Mine supervisors, Hydrogeologists, Marine geologist, Research associate etc in national companies such as GAIL, ONGC, Geological Survey of India (GSI), Coal India, ISRO, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Hindustan Zinc Ltd etc. Students can also pursue higher studies in M.Sc. Geology, M.Sc. Petroleum Geology, M.Sc Marine Geology, PhD courses etc from colleges in India or abroad
